Vampire Weekend thought Trent Reznor's angry Tweet was meant for them

With only 140 characters to work with and a potential audience of millions, the chances for miscommunication and misunderstanding on Twitter are many. Case in point, the angry Tweet sent by Nine Inch Nails' frontman Trent Reznor after this year's Grammy 'spectacular', a rant that poor Vampire Weekend originally thought was aimed at them.

In the pre telecast ceremony Vampire Weekend came out the winners in the Best Alternative Music Album category for Modern Vampires Of The City. As Nine Inch Nails, as well as Neko Case, the National and Tame Impala were also nominated in that category the band initially thought the criticism might be directed their way.

Explained drummer Chris Tomson to KROQ; "We saw that last night and we were worried for a second that it was about us because NIN were in our category. So we thought, “Oh, damn. Is Trent Reznor pissed at the Dubs?”

The fact that NIN’s Hesitation Marks lost out to 'the Dubs' was not of course why Trent was all fired up. He was angry that his performance with Dave Grohl, Lindsey Buckingham and Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age was abruptly cut off by sponsor messages and credits. Having caused enough of a fuss that he was a trending topic on Twitter for hours after his rant Trent has been very quiet on social media, maybe to just let his message sink in.

In the same interview Tomson expounded a theory about the frequency with which Taylor Swift has been featured in the past couple of Grammy broadcasts; "It’s almost like they make her dance. I think they plan it.”
