US Library of Congress Preserves Sounds

Australia's very own disco divas The Bee Gees have been added to the US Library of Congress's National Recording Registry.

The soundtrack to the classic film, Saturday Night Fever has been chosen for preservation for the library, with eight of the sixteen songs on the album by the Bee Gees.

Joining them in this week's addition is Pink Floyd with The Dark Side Of The Moon and Simon and Garfunkel with Sounds Of Silence.

Not just songs are put onto the registry- any sound with historical, artistic and cultural significance may be chosen, meaning rock and roll gods such as The Ramones sit beside the resonating rhetoric of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
