The Stooges drummer Scott “Rock Action” Asheton' passes away at 64

The Stooges drummer and one of the cofounders of the band, Scott “Rock Action” Asheton' passed away at the age of 64 on Saturday evening.

The news was broken to the world by Iggy Pop who posted a heartfelt message on the band official Facebook page. In the post he referred to his longtime friend and collaborator as 'like a brother to me' and that 'I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton'.

Scott, along with his brother Ron, who passed away as a result of a heart attack in 2009, founded The Stooges back in 1967 with Pop and bassist Dave Alexander. After recording and releasing their three classic albums The Stooges, Fun House and Raw Power the band split in 1974. The Ashetons were among those who returned when the band reformed in 2003 and Scott did play on last year's 'Ready to Die album, but has not been touring with them recently due to an undisclosed medical condition.
