The Business Frontman Micky Fitz Has Died

According to the music website, Louder Than War, The Business' charismatic frontman Micky Fitz (Michael Fitzsimons) had died of cancer, ending the band. At the end of 2015, Fitz was diagnosed with cancer on the lymph gland and had been undergoing radiotherapy.

The Business were an English Oi!/Punk band formed in 1979 in Lewisham, South London and became influential in the Oi! Punk movement.

Their 1982 EP was a #3 indie hit and after a short tour, they recorded their debut album, which was to be called "Loud, Proud And Punk." Here the title track from that original EP, "Smash The Discos" running headlong into "Loud Proud And Punk". This video was recorded live at The Tote during their last Australian tour five years ago in 2011. It was the bands second tour to Australia, as they had previously been here in 2009 with Sham 69.

Here are some reactions via social media.

Dead Kennedys:
RIP – Mickey Fitz. We shared the same stage with The Business many times. He was always a great front man and greater person.

Dropkick Murphys:
Our hearts go out to the family and friends of one of Lewisham's finest sons. Micky Fitz of the Business was a longtime friend and touring buddy of the Dropkick Murphys. We go back a long time and even cowrote the title track with him from the Mob Mentality split we did with the Business in 1999/2000. He lost the battle to cancer and passed away this morning. He did a runner up to the Pearly Gates we'll sorely miss him. Our condolences to Kim and his family, and all Business members past and present.

Sick Of It All:
We’re all very saddened to hear of the passing of a major influence and good friend, Mickey Fitz of the Business. No one embodied the bridge that connects punk to Oi to hardcore as well as he did. We thoroughly enjoyed the bond we formed with the Business back in ’95 in Lincoln, Nebraska, when fate brought us together. The vigor Mickey brought to a room (and of course to the stage,) was unforgettable, and his sheer enthusiasm for life, music (and football!) set him apart from most. Rest In Peace, brother. I hold my pint glass high in your honor!!!

It breaks my heart to hear the sad news about Micky Fitz dying. Like everyone else in our community i loved him and i for one am finding it hard to keep it together. Raising a glass to you Mick as i write this. What a fine bloke you were and how greatly you will be missed. A true punk legend who will never be forgotten because of the great songs The Business wrote, the way you performed and the outstanding all round man you were. I will miss you greatly and the tears are starting to well up. You were a legend Mick and you always will be. Peter Test-Tube

Street Dogs:
Today we learned of the passing of a friend, a legendary singer and songwriter Micky Fitz of The Business. We ask that you keep his family and friends in your prayers tonight.
Micky Fitz was without question one of the most important and exceptional street punk singers ever and his voice led the charge of The Business. Who without a doubt are a pioneering band in Oi/Street Punk. The Business are in a league of their own and have and will continue to influence street punk bands for forever and a day. They have been and will continue to have a huge influence on the Street Dogs. Finally in our humble estimation Micky Fitz was an integral part of The Business and we mourn his loss and he will be sorely missed.
