Petition to ban Snoop Dogg from Australia takes off on

Some people are not very happy that Snoop Dogg is coming back to Australia.

A petition has been started on the activist site that seeks to have Snoop Dogg (occasionally Snoop Lion) barred from the country by revoking his visa. The petition was started by the same activist who also campaigned against rapper/comedian Tyler the Creator last year.

Talitha Stone cites Snoop Dogg's lyrics from past tracks for inciting hatred against women and a 2006 interview in which the rapper claimed to have become a real life pimp in 2003. She calls upon Immigration Minister Scott Morrison to revoke Snoop's visa and prevent him from joining the Big Day Out lineup as planned. The petition, at the time of writing, has over 2,500 signatures. You can see it here by the way…

This is not the first time that Snoop has run into trouble trying to get into Oz. His visa was denied in 2007 with then-Immigration Minister Kevin Andrews stating, “This man has been a member of a Los Angeles gang – and is still associated with it apparently – that’s been involved in murder, robberies and drug dealings in the LA area… He doesn’t seem the sort of bloke we want in this country.” The ban was lifted in 2008 after the rapper was the subject of a 'full character assessment' by the immigration Department.

For the record, Snoop has been married to his high school sweetheart, Shante Taylor, since 1997 and the couple have three sons. He also became a full convert to the Rastafari movement last year, runs a football league for under privileged kids and has publicly spoken out in favour of same sex marriage.
