With the news yesterday of the sudden demise of another music festival hitting the skids, it seems like our favourite Easter Weekend music festival, the 27th Byron Bay Bluesfest keeps on getting bigger, brighter and stronger.
If it wasn't already a killer lineup with The National, Brian Wilson, Tom Jones, Kendrick Lamar, The Residents, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, City and Colour and lots more - now they have just announced TEN new artists to the Bluesfest 2016 bill.
New artists to it's already bulging bill are indie rockers, Modest Mouse. There latest album, Strangers To Ourselves" peaked at number one on the US Billboard Top Rock Album charts. The last time Modest Mouse toured Australia was four years ago for Splendour In The Grass 2011.
British singer songwriter Graham Nash has also been added to bill. Graham was one of the founding members of The Hollies, which busted the charts with songs like 'Bus Stop', ‘He Ain't Heavy, He’s My Brother’, ‘The Air That I Breathe’ and ‘Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress’. Graham was also a part of the super folk group, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, whose most memorable performance was at Woodstock, at the height of the flower power era in 1969.
LA’s Kamasi Washington is bringing his band to Byron Bay. His latest critically acclaimed album The Epic is a triple disc 172 minute masterpiece that fuses elements of Soul, Jazz, Classical, Hip-Hop and Gospel. Kamasi is also responsible for the arrangements on Kendrick Lamar’s Grammy nominated album To Pimp A Butterfly, who is headlining this forthcoming Bluesfest music festival.
From Singapore, Raw Earth will be playing their unique brand of boogie and blues. Bass player for Nahko and Medicine for the People, Dustin Thomas will be performing a solo set.
Blind Boy Paxton maybe in his 20's but he brings his influenced by the likes of Fats Waller and "Blind" Lemon Jefferson. Elle King will bring her special blend of Country, Soul, Folk, Rock and Blues.
On the local front, iconic Australian singer/songwriter Richard Clapton, prolific bluesmen Ash Grunwald and Ward Xpress have also been added to the Bluesfest bill.
