Listen: Lorde teams up with Haim, scores $2.5 million publishing deal

Songs Music Publishing have given Lorde a slightly late 17th birthday present of sorts; a worldwide publishing deal that is said to be worth around $2.5 million. Not that she had been short of suitors for signature on such a deal as up to half a dozen companies were said to be competing for her services prior to Songs sealing the deal.

Songs founder and CEO Matt Pincus is obviously very pleased with himself; “She could have signed anywhere she wanted to sign, and I don’t know what other people were offering, but as we often say — music publishing is about relationships and it’s about people. “I’m incredibly proud to be Ella’s publisher — we think she’s a once-in-a-generation type artist". Ella Yellich O’Connor being Lorde's real name don't forget.

Pincus is also setting up the chance for his new protegee to collaborate with some of his longer standing artists including The Weekend and Diplo. Lorde has already begun arranging such things though, as while in New York to perform at the VH1′ ‘You Oughta Know’ concert she took to the stage with California sister act Haim. You can listen to the results of that pairing below:
