'King' Kanye West now has his very own currency

Recently we told you that Kanye West got a nice ego stroke when a respected academic published a book devoted to his 'impact on culture'. Now he is getting something else that should swell his head - his very own virtual currency.

The idea of a virtual currency has exploded in recent months with the huge popularity of BitCoin so the fact that numerous other similar offerings are springing up is no big surprise. The latest calls itself Coinye West, a nod to Yeesuz himself.

The currency is due to debut on January 11th and although Kanye has no official involvement with it, its creators are hoping to to change that, appealing to the rapper's well known sense of vanity. “We’d love if Kanye named dropped Coinye. I think he’s gonna love that there’s a CURRENCY named in his honor. We don’t want to pay him off to name check us, but it’d be sick if he does so. In-fact, we’re making an open invitation to Kanye: Get hold of us at coinyewest.com and we’ll send you 100,000 COINYE on launch. A hundred thousand. Bitcoin started small too, and now look where it’s at.”

It may indeed be worth Kanye giving the offer some thought. In less than 12 months the value of one Bitcoin has skyrocketed from $20 to as much as $900 and he does have a wedding to pay for soon that will need to be at least ten times more spectacular than his hire out a baseball stadium proposal.
