Karen O, U2, Pharrell, Arcade Fire and Owen Pallett all get Oscar nominations




The nominee lists for the 2014 Academy Awards - aka the Oscars - were announced from Hollywood on Thursday morning and the Original Song category is looking pretty competitive, with Karen O, U2 and Pharrell Williams all receiving nominations while Arcade Firehave a good shot in the Original Score category.

Karen O is nominated together with Spike Jonze (she wrote the music, he came up with the lyrics' for 'The Moon Song' from Spike's latest film Her. The movie's music could actually potentially become a double Oscar winner though if Arcade Fire win for original score (along with their co-nominee Owen Pallett)

U2 got their nod for 'Ordinary Love' from 'Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom' and Pharrell or 'Happy' from the animated hit 'Despicable Me 2'

In terms of the of their competition rounding out the Original Score Category is Bruce Broughton and Dennis Spiegel's "Alone Yet Not Alone" from the film of the same name and Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez' 'Let it Go' which is featured in Frozen. Arcade Fire on the other hand are up against scores from Philomena, Gravity, Saving Mr Banks and John Williams' score for The Book Thief which is his 49th Oscar nomination, although he has only gone home a winner five times.
