Guns N' Roses Guitarist Newly Engaged, Helped by Las Vegas Police

In what can only be called a grand gesture of misdirected expenditure, Las Vegas police are facing an internal probe after aiding a marriage proposal last weekend.

Guns N' Roses guitarist Daren Jay 'DJ' Ashba posted an Instagram photo on Saturday of he and his partner, Colombian actress Nathalia Henao, wearing helicopter headgear.

A caption accompanying the photo read: "(I)t was beautiful she didn't expect a thing, it was magical. And thanks to our good friends for making it all happen!"

The 'good friends' in question are reportedly employees of Las Vegas police, who granted DJ and his newly betrothed a private helicopter ride to a field prepared with, according to Ashba, "a bottle of that bubble stuff".

The band's publicist has confirmed the validity of Ashba's Instagram account and all images associated with the event.

The tax-payer funded junket comes as Sheriff Doug Gillespie last week continued his push for an increased sales tax - from 8.1 to 8.25 percent - in order to fix a $30 million budget wound.

Many, including an Instagram follower dubbed mjmannino81, were quick to point out the irony in the misstep: "It's nice to know that Clark County (which includes Las Vegas), might raise the sales tax to pay for extra cops to give private helicopter tours for wealthy celebrities."
