After a fortnight of foreplay (or should we call it FOOPLAY?), Foo Fighters have announced that they will be heading to Australia and New Zealand for five stadium shows in February and March 2015 in support of their eighth studio album, Sonic Highways. The album is due to be released on the 10th of November. It will be The Foo Fighters return to Hobart for the first time since 1998, with the tour’s only indoor show at the Derwent Entertainment Centre.
Way back in May this year the band posted this tease for their Australian and New Zealand fans.
Then two weeks ago, tour promoters Frontier Touring launched their cryptic SomethingNothingOzNz website.
"Something From Nothing" is the first song released from Sonic Highways.
The viral website was filled with clues, the sharing of the hashtag #somethingoznz and every popular Foo Fighter meme from Dave Grohl in FRESH POTS...
...to David Letterman's long running gag of Fighting Foo.
This comes after a week of the band appearing with special guests on the popular late night talk show, Late Show With David Letterman. The highlights include Foo Fighters with Zac Brown, performing an rip snorting stomping cover version of Black Sabbath's 'War Pigs'.
Foo Fighter's drummer, Taylor Hawkins took centre stage in a white suit and looking like a youthful Robin Zander, when they were joined by Cheap Trick's legendary guitarist Rick Nielsen, for some 'Stiff Competition'.
Foo Fighters also performed with Heart and Tony Joe White during their week long stint on Letterman.
Foo Fighters latest album, was recorded in eight studios in Chicago, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, Seattle, New Orleans, Virginia and New York with legendary producer Butch Vig of Garbage fame. The album shares its name with the HBO eight part documentary TV series, that airs locally on Go! every Saturday at 4.30pm. The whole TV series will also be made available on iTunes.
While there was initial disappointment from fans that Chicago punk rockers Rise Against would not be a part of next year's Soundwave lineup, it can finally be revealed that they will be supporting the whole Foo Fighter's Sonic Highways tour. According to Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah they will be also doing a "headline tour a few months later".
It is great to see hard working Melbourne based rockers, The Delta Riggs getting the local support slot on this tour (everywhere except Tasmania). Their latest release 'Dipz Zebazios' is the featured album on triple j this week and in our offices, we have been blasting "The Record's Flawed" for over a month.
