Davey Lane's New Solo Album Set To Blast Off!

I was lucky enough to get a live preview of Davey Lane's debut solo album.

Let me introduces you to You Am I ace guitarist and all round good guy, Davey Lane new HOT band! Davey is just about to release his first solo album 'Atonally Young' this Friday on the 3rd of October. At the opening night of Rolling Stone Australia LIVE LODGE at The Workers Club his band played some of these new songs live for the first time. It was good to hear 'You're The Cop, I'm The Crime', from Davey Lane's Debut EP 'The Good Borne Of Bad Tymes'

I must admit, after seeing this intimate live preview of his new album, it is going to be ALL KILLERS NO FILLERS! The first music video, the haunting cosmonaut rocker, 'Komarov' is brilliant. Davey does Bowie!

Some of best songs that I heard this night for the first time include 'Not An Option Now', 'Smash Yer Head In' and the freakout 'The Last Of The Freakazoids'. From arty space rock to jangly guitar pop, to all out balls to the wall, boogie woogie rock'n'roll in the style of The Jim Jones Revue, this album is truly going to BLAST OFF!

Davey has branched out from You Am I before with The Pictures but this is his first official solo release. On drums we have Davey's main man. The always smiling and effervescent, Brett Wolfenden AKA Wolfie.

Davey and Wolfie are also involved in the posthumous release of the final album by Aussie rock icon and Masters Apprentices frontman Jim Keays, who passed away in June this year after a long illness. Davey will be performing a Jim Keays tribute at the forthcoming Age Music Victoria Awards on Wednesday 19th November at 170 Russell.

Sporting an old school Paul McCartney style Hofner bass guitar, we have Zac Crozier. I had a quick chat with fresh faced keyboardist, James Fleming after the gig at The Workers Club. James is performing double duty around town, as a member of that eclectic combo, Eagle And The Worm. He was telling how he was able to tweak his keyboard with added reverb, so suddenly it sounded old school 50's style rock'n'roll piano. One moment he is playing some sweet keyboard poptones and the next song, he is bangin' away some toot sweet boogie woogie! I was gobsmacked! The last time I saw this, it was Henri Herbert (piano player with The Jim Jones Revue) but he was doing it playing an upright piano.

'Atonally Young' has come to fruition, due to a successful crowdfunding campaign on Pozible. His fanbase surpassed Davey's expectations, pledging well over $18,000 from his target of $15,000. They are touring soon, catch Davey Lane when he comes to your town.
