Bruce Springsteen Born to Run manuscript sells for $218,000

Another flimsy piece of paper has sold for silly money at auction, this time a handwritten 'work in progress' manuscript for Bruce Springsteen's Born to Run.

The notebook paper, ripped from the kind of schoolchild's 8 x 11 1/2 The Boss is known to prefer, was auctioned off at Sotheby's New York on Thursday. It had been estimated that they might fetch between $US70,000 to $US100,000, but they actually ended up going for $US197,000 ($218,000) to an anonymous bidder.

The manuscript reveals that while Bruce may be a master lyricist his actual spelling and grammar could use a little work but he can be forgiven as the end result was the song that has been a true rock and roll anthem since it was first released in 1975.
