The Presets win APRA Songwriters of the Year

APRA (Australasian Performing Right Association) last night revealed the winners of the 2009 APRA Music Awards. The winners represent the songwriters behind the most successful works of 2008.

The prestigious APRA SONGWRITER OF THE YEAR - decided by the APRA Board of Writer and Publisher Directors - has been awarded to Kim Moyes and Julian Hamilton of The Presets.

Capping off what has been an astonishing 18 months for the duo, their phenomenally successful album ‘Apocalypso' showcased their ability to fuse lyrical daring with killer melodies and proved that they are without doubt an Australian songwriting force to be reckoned with.

While Julian Hamilton is a previous APRA Award winner (as co-writer of "Straight Lines" with Daniel Johns of Silverchair in 2008), this is the first win for The Presets.

The Number One album Apocalypso now stands in excess of TRIPLE PLATINUM sales, along with the singles My People (DOUBLE PLATINUM and longest charting Australian artist single in history), Talk Like That (PLATINUM single) and hits This Boy's In Love, If I Know You (Currently a US BILLBOARD TOP 20 HOT DANCE single) and Kicking and Screaming all spending months in the charts and across the national airwaves.
