Hosted by the forever youthful Dylan Lewis, 14 awards were awarded on the night. Remi won the most coveted prize, the Carlton Dry Global Music Grant of $50,000. The MC also won Best Independent Hip Hop Album for his debut album, 'Raw x Infinity'.

Rob Elder, Brand Manager for Carlton Dry stated “The music scene in Australia has never been stronger and Carlton Dry is proud to support young Aussie artists looking to make the jump into the overseas market. Having seen King Gizzard explode over the last 12 months we can’t wait to see how Remi takes his music to the globe throughout the next year and beyond.”

TERRORIST THREAT! James Tidswell of Violent Soho was KICKED OFF THE PLANE before they could come down to Melbourne to collect their two Carlton Dry Independent Music Awards. All because he was wearing this classic Painters and Dockers 'EAT SHIT DIE' T-Shirt! The Docker's lead singer, Paulie Stewart would be so proud! DOCK ON? More like DOCK OFF!

Popping it on inside out, he was suddenly and incomprehensibly no longer deemed a terrorist threat and VIOLENT SOHO won Best Independent Album and Best Independent Hard Rock, Heavy or Punk Album for their opus, 'Hungry Ghost'. You have got to love a bit of controversy.

After a recent string of four sold out shows at The Corner Hotel, Courtney Barnett picked up two awards with the Best Independent Artist and Best Single awards for 'Avant Gardener'. Courtney was unable to attend as she playing a concert in Sydney but Jen Cloher picked up her awards, delivering a passionate speech.
