Metallica To Headline Golden Gods Awards Night

Thrash metal gods Metallica have been announced as the headline act for the fifth Golden Gods Awards ceremony, which honours the best hard rock and heavy metal musicians.

This year - its fifth - will feature performances by Anthrax, Five Finger Death Punch, Stone Sour and The Dillinger Escape Plan.

The ceremony and performances will be broadcast over Facebook and Xbox Live on May 2.

Metallica will receive the 2013 Ronnie James Dio Lifetime Achievement Award, while Black Sabbath's Tony Iommi will receive the Riff God trophy, and Rob Zombie will get the Golden God statue.

Back in January, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian talked to Rolling Stone about Metallica's award.

He said: "It would be very easy to think of a band like Metallica – being one of the biggest bands on the planet – to not really give a shit about this type of stuff."

"I've known those guys forever.

"This will show the world in a big way that these guys never forgot who they are."

Trophies yet to be awarded include Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Comeback of the Year, Most Metal Athlete (self-explanatory, if weird), and the Most Dedicated Fans Award.

Metallica weren't nominated for that last one, but you can prove that they should've been by watching this video for 'The Unforgiven'.
