Having already conducted two extremely successful tours in support of their number one album ‘Breed Obsession’, Gyroscope will take to the road throughout August and September to deliver a 36 date national tour. The Australia tour celebrates the release of the bands third single, fittingly titled ‘Australia’ and is the largest tour ever undertaken by the band. Kicking off at Splendour in the Grass they’ll do a lap of the map, taking in major cities, regional towns, and suburbia along the way.
With a fresh approach, this talented four piece who’ve been together since school, have somewhat re-invented themselves introducing a more eclectic sound. It’s been a healthy start with ‘Snakeskin’, the first single from ‘Breed Obsession’, debuting at number 30 on the ARIA national album chart and taking out the number 16 spot on Triple j’s hottest 100. The track is also currently featured in all Network Ten promotions for the AFL season.
Released on Saturday July 12, Gyroscope’s new single ‘Australia’ delves deeper into the band’s pop attributes delivering a poignant tuneful track which draws you in with its acoustic opening and takes you on a melodic ride as its marching-band beat and lush strings build to its magic crescendo. ‘Australia’ is testimony to a young band willing to challenge themselves and with this track they’ve superbly crafted an anthemic major crossover hit which has already been embraced widely by radio around the country.
Gyroscope front man Daniel Sanders explains the essence of the track,
“I remember musically penning the song just after I'd been up to Derby in the Kimberly region of WA. I'd been up there with my wife Jess visiting her sister who's a remote nurse. I’ve always had a connection with the indigenous community and having never been up into this region before, the beauty of the land revealed itself to me and I realised the powerful interaction between the land and the community. I guess that was the trigger that made me actually put something down, seeing and spending time with that part of our country inspired me. Lyrical inspiration then came from the heart and felt relatively easy and just felt right to me. I'm writing about coming to Australia from the mother country, I came over with my English mum and Australian dad when I was two. My entire upbringing has been here and now I'm old enough to realise, I cherish that. I wanted to celebrate Australia as a country on its merits. I am just a visitor who washed up on the shore and can only tell a story from what I see and have learnt.”
Packed with passion, commitment, and sincere dedication to their art, Gyroscope are currently the hottest export from the West. They’re completely focused and ready to deliver powered pop-rock sets for fans as they make their way around the nation.
It’s with great pleasure we announce SHIHAD as special guests for the Australia tour, they compliment one of the great bills to be seen in Australia this year with the announcement they are to tour almost everywhere with Gyroscope. Shihad return in splendid fashion with their new album ‘Beautiful Machine’. Spawning the glorious radio singles ‘One Will Hear The Other’ and ‘Vampires’, along with signature heavy groove laden numbers ‘Chameleon’, ‘Rule The World’, and the punk leanings of ‘Count It Up’, ‘Beautiful Machine’ again demonstrates Shihad as masters of reinvention. For well over a decade Shihad’s rock peers have acknowledged the band as one of the greatest live acts in the world. The guys have shared stages with some of the greats, Tool, AC/DC, Faith No More, Metallica and can count Iggy and Mr Grohl among others as fans. With both bands having released incredible new albums and both sharing reputations for incendiary live performances the Australia tour is one not to be missed!
Add Sugar Army, one of the most exhilarating new young bands to come out of WA for sometime, to the mix and they’ll certainly complete what will be one serious rockin’ ride on the Australia tour!
Finally, as a very special treat for their hometown fans, Gyroscope are pleased to announce their local buddies JEBEDIAH will join the fanfare for the last major city show of the tour in Perth. With multi-WAMI awards, a heap of ARIA nominations as well as multi-platinum sales under their belt this four-piece are renowned for delivering super funtasatic shows. Over the past ten plus years they’ve shared the stage with such music luminaries as Soundgarden, Silverchair, You Am I, Everclear and The Presidents of the United States of America. It’s been a few years between drinks for the Jebs, as they’re so fondly known, however they recently rekindled the fire and returned to the studio to work on new material with a new album expected to be released later this year. JEBEDIAH will deliver an exuberant set full of the up beat gems we’ve all known and loved them for. WA fans can expect some serious rock’n’roll antics and much fanfare for what will be a fitting end to the Australia tour as all three WA bands take to the stage at Metro City in Perth!
