After the release of their long awaited debut album, ‘Triangle Island’ (featuring the Triple J hit single ‘Mystery Music’) and an extensive national tour with ping-pong pop sensation Operator Please, Melbourne indie rock group FLAMINGO CRASH have announced a national headline tour to celebrate the success!
FLAMINGO CRASH has been described as a band with “…with one foot entrenched in the past (Wire, XTC, Talking Heads, The Ex) and another in some ethereal neverland” (Rave Magazine). The independent release of a limited edition ‘Shoot the Lights Out’ seven-inch green vinyl gained the sudden interest of the international media with standout reviews in London, New York City and Tokyo. The track was used in an Australian TV commercial for VOLVO. Japanese record label VJR signed the band in June 2007 on the strength of the single alone.
FLAMINGO CRASH recorded their debut album ‘Triangle Island’ with ARIA Award winning producer Magoo (Midnight Oil, Regurgitator, Gerling) in his new Applewood Church studio. The album mixes were then sent from the rural Australian centre to the heart of New York City to be mastered by Steve Fallone (Sonic Youth, The Strokes, TV On The Radio, James Brown). The result is an intelligent take on indie rock, with electro beats, rock ‘n roll riffs and colourful pop grooves. Sidekick is thrilled to be releasing ‘Triangle Island’ in stores and online from April 26.
Recent overseas and Australian tours have further established FLAMINGO CRASH as a band not to forget, as they continually climb the steps of the Australian indie scene, previously playing alongside The Go! Team, Maximo Park, Lily Allen, The Bravery, Love is All, The Presets, Galvatrons and You Am I and most recently Operator Please. In addition, the band has received an overwhelming success in Japan with a headline tour there in October 2007.
Sidekick now sits along side Boomtown Records, Blueprint Music and Hopeless Records Australia as one of Melbourne based company, The Staple Group’s recording endeavors. Under the experienced eyes of Jerry Soer (Manager for Young & Restless, Gameboy/Gamegirl and Miami Horror), Sidekick will work with some of the Australia’s best indie, rock, electro and dance groups, beginning with FLAMINGO CRASH.
The debut album from FLAMINGO CRASH, ‘Triangle Island’ is out now through Sidekick Music. Catch FLAMINGO CRASH on their ‘Triangle Island’ around the country through June.
