“Make it last, make it last…” croons Brissy “It” girl of the ARIA world, of the crazily crazy hyphenated name, Ms Kate Miller-Heidke.

And yet, if fans choose not to take heed of aforementioned lyrical advice, it would seem not to matter. A glance at the classically trained lass’s touring schedule implies that her live performances will, at least in the near future, will outlast us all.

It has not been so long between gigs that I last saw Miller-Heidke (or KMH as she’s known to those who are “street”) in fine form, on the back of the critically acclaimed debut album, “Little Eve”.

Now, however, it seems that the KMH entourage are a little uncertain of why the mistress of the ballad is back on the road.

Her tour manager mentions something vaguely to me about the release of a new DVD, which is inclusive of a couple of B-Sides. KMH herself lets slip a couple of new tracks on the set list, mentioning the imminent release of a new album.

Whatever the case, she has become somewhat of a seasoned expert when it comes to live eprformance. Not only does she manage to consistently blow the roof off with her amazing powerhouse vocals, she also has a very fine knack of choosing credible support acts to come a long for the ride.

Case in point on the night were supporters, (the previously Unearthed artists from Triple J) Richard in Your Mind and in particular, Black Market Rhythm Co.

Preceding the performance of the Queen of the Night was a friendly four piece, who took on a musical Mark Twain adventure: charming, cheeky and very laddish. There was also the impressive player who effortlessly moved from bass to brass (and here was me thinking that the bass player was the bum of the band…how shameful!).

It may have been a case of “same old, same old”, but this is not necessarily a negative reflection on the woman who, along with her talented band, put on a pretty unforgettable live show. Even if that means I could remember all the words to that hilarious ditty that has a go about Australian Idol, and it was a bit 2007.

And it may not be as relevant to cover John Farnham’s, “You’re the Voice” as it was when she first performed it only moments away from our last federal election, but it was still fun to listen to all the same.

I mean, if you go to a fine restaurant and love their filet mignon, you could go back again six months later and still enjoy it. Even if there are no surprises, you know that you’re going to like it, and it will always be better than the experience than you would have at home.
