Red Riders

You know it’s going to be a good gig when it takes you 20 minutes to get into the place, especially when there has never ever been a line up at the venue (ever!). And that is exactly what the queue for Red Riders was like, a heap of excited Indie rockers still hoping there’s going be tickets on the door. Luckily for most people on time there were more than enough tickets and everyone who entered The Globe knew they were in for a good time – the reviewer sure did.

With half the place filled, Stature:Statue burst to life on the stage. Stature:Statue are an awesome home grown four piece who love cranking out loud rough riffs. With the boys really getting into their set on stage, the crowd seemed fairly distant from the young rockers. This was maybe due to the main act, Red Riders, having a more cruisy pop-rock feel to them, where as Stature:Statue would have been better warming up to the likes of Mars Volta.

After a good effort by Stature Statue, Violent Soho came up next. After only hearing a few comments on them in the past, the crowd really seemed to warm up to the grungy punk sounds of Violent Soho. Again another Brisy born four piece, they really bring the days of Sonic Youth and Nirvana back to life with songs like 'Generation' and 'Bomb Over Broadway'. Definitely a group to watch out for in the future!

After the preludes to the main act were over, the whole crowd welcomed Red Riders to the stage with thunderous applause, right before they went straight into their intro from Replica Replica – 'C’Mon'. As 'Call on Me' (from their EP released two years ago) burst to life, the true diversity of this Sydney four piece was illustrated profoundly. With an out of the norm, dark feeling to them, Red Riders have the ability to captivate any audience and take them on a journey through their set.

The reviewer, who has already seen these guys twice before (supporting Faker and Little Birdy), thought this was by far their best performance. All their songs were tighter than ever and with the whole crowd behind them, it was evident that they were having an extraordinary amount of fun on stage. And having fun is definitely one of this bands passion’s; which is illustrated through their hip swinging moves and unprecedented love for dancing to Indie rock. Finishing off with 'My Love is Stronger' and an epic rendition of their 'In My Sleep', the Red Riders exited to the stage, much to the joyous and mutual “disappointment that it was over” feelings of the audience.
