In what has to be one of the most corny album titles in recent history, Too B or Not Too B provides a ......Combining their first two EPs (Darkside/Stay Awake and Cara Sposa), and some rare b-sides, Too B or Not Too BI, ’m sure will have Kisschasy fans, old and new, celebrating the opportunity to hear these original Eps that only sold a few thousand copies and were deleted long ago.
It is obvious from the first song Darkside, who it is we are listening to, however even though these original recordings are only four years old it is also quite obvious just how far the boys from the Mornington Peninsula have come.
Reminder is the standout track, reminiscent of Australian rock legends Jebediah. A song that could have easily found a home on either of Kisschasy’s full releases, showcasing what was to become of this band in it’s early formation.
In an interesting version of the Gin Blossoms’ Hey Jealousy, highlighting singer Darren Cordeux’s unique voice and leads nicely into the three unreleased tracks. Electric in the Chair is a hard rocking track almost poles apart form Hey Jealousy, heavy guitars riffs drowning out Cordeux’s vocals. Jack the Alien is an upbeat and catchy tune, written about an alien friend, it had made laughing along as I heard all about the purple spots and orange hair!
The unreleased Wake. Sleep. Turn. Repeat is the best of the unreleased tracks, and could find them the success of some of their hits like Spray on Pants or The Shake. It will strike a chord with those feeling the monotony of working life and hang out for the weekend.
They close the album with a fantastic acoustic version of Darkside, something they should with some more of thier songs. The acoustic versions still has the Kisschasy signature all over it, but again releases the freedomof Cordeux's vocals to shine through.
Also Included is a bonus DVD featuring all of Kisschasy’s music videos from United Paper People and their current record Hymns For The Non Believer.
