Andy Bull - Small Town Girl (Single)
» Little Red - Republic Bar and Cafe, Tas - September 13, 2008
» Andy Bull - Vanguard, The, NSW - February 8, 2007
Sydney ‘blue eyed soul’ talent Andy Bull single release offers two of his well crafted, wonderfully arranged songs Small Town Girl, April Still May as well as a live cover Manic Depression. These songs are brought to life with his trademark sweet vocals, charm and an army of solid musicians behind him. Having seen Bull perform, his songs translate well both live and in studio.
Bull has been working on his craft for a few years, and you can tell that quality time was spent making these recordings magical. Small Town Girl brings in a string section to lift the song to atmospheric heights. The song builds at the right pace and maintains momentum. His vocals are distinctive, crisp and clear. Bull's song topics are about the usual girls and love, but Bull brings a jazzy, stylish vibe to dirty, gritty rock/pop music.
April Still May is an epic song bringing in a horn section to highlight the textures in the song. The song seems to be about redemption and regret. Manic Depression can only be described as beautiful noise. Bull proves he can pull off messy rock as well as genuine emotion and passion in his songs. Bull is an authentic artist. If this single is anything to go by, expect great things from this piano based singer/songwriter.
