Numbers Radio - Numbers Radio (EP)
For a band that only formed earlier this year, Numbers Radio are doing exceptionally well. They have featured on the ‘Unearthed’ section of Triple J’s website, plus there song Come On has started to receive plenty of notice on commercial radio.
Their self titled EP is surprisingly good with Dave Orr (vocals, guitar), Robbie Carlyon (bass, vocals) and Mark Henman (drums) showing their ability to craft energetic rock songs. Majority of the five songs on the EP where recorded in one session in an effort to capture the raw live power of the band, and this definitely comes across to the listener. Each song has drums and guitar tunes that demand your attention, with Dave’s versatile voice only adding to the mix. Stand out song on the EP has to be Come On with its infectious oh ah ah oh oh’s and fast paced beat that makes you nod your head in agreement. The drums at the end of the song are perfect, leading you straight into the next song.
Decide has a guitar riff that remains in your head long after the track has ended. With lyrics like “Between the devil and the deepest sea, prodigy your change is now complete” Numbers Radio proves that, unlike the bulk of bands in the music industry, they can actually write decent lyrics.
Each song holds it’s own; however none manage to enthral you as a listener. Yes, they are great songs and they are certainly a band that is going places but this EP does not contain any ‘hit’ songs that are going to catapult them into the music charts. Perhaps they will have more luck with their debut album set for release next year.
