Various Artists - Vodaphone Live at The Chapel - Volume Two (Album)
For old school music fans like me, it is a bit weird unwrapping the Vodafone Live at the Chapel - Volume Two CD. I have had to re-write this article about 10 times, trying to get my head around the fact that Cold Live at the Chapel doesn’t exist anymore. It was the days of listening to b-sides from James Reyne, and little publicized songs like Lo-Tel’s 'Teenager of the Year' that made these CD’s so appealing.
So back on to Cold…sorry Vodafone Live at the Chapel - Volume Two… It’s a mix of Triple J’s hottest 100 and a few songs chucked in from Video Hits. Surprisingly though, the CD manages to envoke singing from me throughout.
Although not the biggest fan of the ‘New’ Eskimo Joe, or The Veronicas, or even Jet, I managed to get into this CD quite easily. The recording is of top standard, and captures the intimacy of the event. For those playing at home, a small Chapel called Chapel off Chapel in Prahan, Melbourne is the venue, an internet emailer is the only way to get on the list, and a top show is promised every week.
Kicking back through tunes like Something for Kate’s 'Cigarettes and Suitcases', Bob Evan’s 'Don’t you think its time', Michael Franti’s 'Everyone Deserves Music' and Evermore’s 'Light Surrounding You' are defiantly the tracks that set the scene for this compilation.
So to be fair, there are no complaints whatsoever, and only words of praise for this compilation. On a personal note, actually being present at the John Mayer gig, and being able to relive this experience was a special moment. Do yourselves a favour and grab this CD. Who knows, you might even end up liking the Veronica’s…
