rocket science psychic man

It would seem that the formulae to success for the average Australian rock band is not a matter of rocket science. It’s all about nifty riffs, catchy choruses and a beat that makes you want to rock out.

This is the theory that Rocket Science have applied to their latest effort in the studios: the result being the release of Psychic Man. This four track extravaganza is a great day out in showing just what the boys have been up to, and how they’re at the pinnacle of their career in rockin’ out.

And so, even though the guys have been in and around the scene, drifting in and out, it feels as though they’ve never really left the scene. The band have been around for as long as I can remember (when in actual fact, it’s only been a measly decade…meh). I remember the days when I used to go to their all-ages gigs that they did circa 2000 when they were still paving their way out and about in the Aussie music scene.

And, since then, to paraphrase from the great Fatboy Slim, they’ve come a long way baby! The Psychic Man single is a delectable taste test in the lead-up to the impending album that’s about to hit the stores.

All the tracks on the EP have an infectious nature about them. The title track, as well as others such as, With You I’ll Be Someone are classics, guaranteed to get the toes tapping and

Roman Tucker’s distinctive vocal techniques as well as some funky organ and theremin breakouts (for those of you playing at home, a theremin is an electrophone, played without touching via the control of its antenna to establish volume and pitch) certainly bring a distinctive edge to all of the tracks.

As well as some impressive guitar riffs from Paul Maybury (who also contributes to the overall production, cos they like to keep it all in the family, I guess) in such tracks as Rock Me and Piranha Sunrise, it seems that this is one of Rocket Science’s finest hours in the lead up to their up and coming album, Different Like You, due for release late July.

To tide all those eager fans over until then, this nifty little single should whet the appetite in the meantime…

So it’s not really about rocket science, but it’s all about Rocket Science!
