Behind Crimson Eyes have tapped into something that is both captivating and inspiring on their four track EP Prologue: The Art of War/Cherry Blossom Epitaph. Both well produced and layered with a wealth of “razor-to-the-wrist” drive, these boys let loose a tide of aggression that is only stemmed by the more melodic moments found within this heart grinding release.
From the first track 'The Art of War', which builds from a small ten second guitar loop to an opening audio pulse as subtle as a sledge to the face, Behind Crimson Eyes set the overtones for the rest of album perfectly. 'Cherry Blossom Epitaph' and 'In Memory Of' explore the more melodic and soulful aspects of the EP and help present the band as capable of exploring greater depths of their own sound without compromising pure unadulterated angst. Whilst 'Revenge 1: Of the Cradle', in this reviewers opinion, dominates the release by beautifully mixing all these elements to make a track that will have you screaming revenge.
Though one might draw comparisons to the likes of Alexisonfire and Silverstein or to a lesser extent From First to Last, the boys do pull together an act that is both individual and worthy of competing with anything out there on a scene that is littered with clear cut copies. This reviewer looks forward to future releases if this is the standard to which all other Behind Crimson Eyes recordings shall be measured against.
