Low Budget

Not being the biggest fan of Aussie Hip Hop myself, I was unsure what to expect when I loaded Magnasound into my stereo and pushed play. After being a self confessed punker, and with most of my mates being brought up around the beats of Matty B, Downsyde and the other local Hip-Hop Music, I thought I had almost heard it all. And then the first track started to play.

Immediately I drew comparisons between Polarity's work, and that of the All Good Funk Alliance. The smooth, funky beats serenaded my house, and far into the neighborhood, as I chucked on a pair of boardies, pulled out the deckchair, and began to relax. First impressions always last, and my first impressions of this production did nothing to disappoint me. The smooth vibes that were hitting out at me had no trace of overproduction, just simple, clean cut beats. I felt privileged to be listening to such sound, and began to wonder, why the word of Low Budget hadn't spread.

MC Genetik speaks the truth. Straight outa Melbourne, his rhymes flow with consistency, and a tongue in cheek attitude makes for an enjoyable experience, and you can only guess what he will say next. Although like some other Aussie rappers, he seems to never force his lyrics, and gives off a very natural vibe.

Overall, the listening experience of these two partners in music namely Low Budget gave me something I had been lacking in my musical life over the exam period - something to relax to, something funky.

If you are looking for more than just an Aussie hip hop act, defiantly check these guys out, they are so much more than just a couple of MC's. 8.5 Out of 10
