Bright Yellow - Love's not a Comfort (EP)

Citing influences as different, as Nirvana, Pink Floyd and Jeff Buckley, East Coast quartet Bright Yellow live up to their billing, with their great debut EP, Love’s not a comfort.
Kicking off with 'Mr. Officer', you could almost be tricked into believing that these guys came out of the same music school as the Artic Monkeys, with a somewhat ‘English’ style of rock. With Chris’ voice sounding like a young Bernard Fanning’s, and the guitars sounding very a-la Oasis, Bright Yellow certainly posses a huge variety and range in their musical talents.
Not one of the tracks on the EP is lifeless, all possessing a certain element of funkiness that you can listen to at anytime of the day. You can almost picture these guys playing at the front bar of your local pub, to a legion of devoted fans jumping up and down, getting into the music as much as these 4 young lads do.
Certainly, they don’t have the standout hits of the big time Australian bands to date, but you get the feeling that they will be around for years to come. Look for these guys on the minor stages in next year’s Big Day Out, and hopefully they will go from strength to strength. Or possibly even the tour the West Coast has been waiting for, a gig with Merle Morris!
