I know it is probably too early in the year for this, but I am going out on a limb here and calling it. Call me foolhardy if you will, but if you knew what I knew you would probably agree with me… ok, here goes, I’m calling it… Tapes and Tapes’ Insistor is… THE SINGLE OF THE YEAR.
As far as songs go, ‘Insistor’ has everything you could ever hope, nay, wish for, in a profound piece of pop- perfection. From a driving beat to the irrepressible melody and the way it forces you to dance uncontrollably (and stupidly I may add) irrespective of whatever, or whoever, is around you. ‘Insistor’ is a non-stop thrill ride of a song and yet it is so damn simple, and that is what makes it so bloody beautiful. Every element of the song is perfectly placed for maximum impact and serves its purpose.
Not to limit themselves to pure pop perfection, Tapes and Tapes back ‘Insistor’ with the mind – bending ‘Crazy Eight’. Moving from down and dirty rock, to 1950’s surf music to acid soaked psychedelia within eight bars is no mean feat, yet it is one that Tapes and Tapes achieve effortlessly.
Given the fact that these two songs were only the single, I know that the album ‘The Loon’ is going to be an absolute masterpiece… so what the hell are you waiting for? Get it! Listen to it! Love it!
