Angie Hart - Grounded Bird (Album)
» Angie Hart announces national tour - January 31, 2008
I’m not familiar with Angie Hart’s previous work in band Frente so I listened to this album with fresh, expectant ears. And I must say they were quite pleased.
Grounded Bird is a great solo debut, not that this lady is new to the industry. Not only do I quite like the album artwork but this CD has some good stuff to give. I wanted to review this album after hearing the first single ‘Cold Heart Killer’ and wanted more, there was also the fact the she appeared on ‘Buffy', which is awesome. 'Cold Heart Killer' is one of my favourite tracks from the album, it’s cute and her voice just carries so well through to the chorus. Her voice is so angelic and sweet, she adds a sense of girlish innocence to all her songs. ‘Kiwi’ (which includes the albums title) is hauntingly beautiful. Hart is accompanied only by soft acoustic guitar until it nears the end when her band makes a triumphant entrance. It has such a mighty effect it gave me goose bumps.
Most of the songs carry a similar tone but her lyrics make each song so unique. ‘Sand’ is another amazing song, there’s something about a perfectly placed crash cymbal that is just incredibly effective in making me swoon. Lyrics like “I wanted to be found/so I hid/I started smoking just so I could quit” have a really playful quality and then add a crash and some muffled drum work and it makes a great little track.
Grounded Bird will collect a few new fans and will definitely re-engage the old and faithful.
