Faint, The - Fasciination (Album)
I was kind of sceptical when I first got this album to review. Dance-punk isn’t really something that I would choose to listen to but this album caught me by surprise a little. I was a bit hesitant to listen to the album and sat grimacing as it started while trying to keep an open mind, which thankfully worked.
The Faint are a 5 piece new wave band from Nebraska in the United States and this is their eighth album. What got me mostly on this album were the sound effects in the songs. I’ve heard them before in dance music which is what usually turns me off such music but I think this time they were used creatively and with a bit more musicianship maybe as opposed to a computer generated beat.
For me, the song The Geeks Were Right was a standout track but maybe the three remixes as the closing tracks of the album weren’t necessary. The song Fulcrum and Lever was also very good. The verse and vocals reminded me of Risingson by Massive Attack.
I thought this album was pretty good, even though it wasn’t really my favourite type of music, it was good to hear something different. The album was full of good beats accompanied by decent guitars and some very cool sound effects.
