Mark Steiner - Fallen Birds (Album)
Without being an Australian resident, Mark Steiner sounds like he has a strong connection with our country, his style is very reminiscent of of our elder statesman Nick Cave, his lounge noirish also has the pop romanticism of mid 70s Lou Reed, but without the pissed of attitude.
On the first track Nisj Mark is backed up by the beautiful seductive singer Amelia S Deva, her vocals have that come hither quality, like a night stalking vampire looking for her victim.
On each track Mark's songs draw you in and hypnotise you like a 50's noir crime thriller, where you don't know whats around the corner, and your kept on the edge waiting for the next surprise.
The beautiful droning piano playing on Unbearable is played out like a down trodden funeral march, its has the beautiful gothic feel to it.
Every track that Amelia Deva sings on, drags you further into her world, and you feel transfixed by the maniacal laughing that surrounds the chorus.
If the album that follows is as enticing as the EP, Mark will hopefully find an avid following, that will be sucked into his world of jagged blues rock.
