true live damn right

As expected, True Live’s new single Damn Right’ is a loud vibrating mishmash of strings rap rhyme swearing and heart shuddering pulsing beats kinda song.

A bloody good show live but on CD it doesn’t get me pumping that hard and fast to be brutally honest. True Live in performance are quite the instigators of fun, energy and cheekiness. I had heard of them but never seen them before StKilda festival this year in 2008, and to be frank had steered clear of them due to their over sold over advertised name at the Prince Of Wales alone. (The wife-beater printed tops on the bar tenders was the last straw for me.) But then I saw them perform and wow the crowd, witnessed their amazing live performance stylings and my mind was forever changed.

The second version on the single being the ‘radio edit’ is word for word the same minus the ‘f’ word naturally. How difficult that must have been to edit. Not so much, no.

I was hanging out for the third and by this stage thankfully last ‘RhyNO versus string remix’ to give me something inspiring. Yeah, so it was the rap and the yelling and the swearing all over again hitting hard up against some beautiful angelic and rollercoaster like strings. Not so macho as may have been intended. Unfortunately, it didn’t save the single for me.

It’s all a bit theatre production and rap made a baby gone haywire for my liking. Will eventually pass this one onto the boyfriend who will add it to Media Player and I’ll get the occasional string bass blast from the other room where I at least don’t have to endure it's repetitively annoying harassment to my ears in three different versions of the exact same thing.

Sorry boys, if I see ya live I’m sure the song would notch it's way up a little, I know it’ll go better with beer that’s for certain. Maybe I’m a critical single reviewer, or single-minded (pardon the pun), but maybe I’m just an album girl. I’m allowed, I’m female, I like selection, and it’s my prerogative. Damn Right it is.
