The first time I heard Jess McAvoy play, she was travelling the country with Dave Larkin and Pete Satchel from Dallas Crane and Henry Waggons. I caught her play in Byron and Brisbane and was blown away by her charm and talent. Listening to her latest offering, I am again impressed by this girl. I love her music.
It's raw and honest, and she has an amazing voice. This is one of those rare albums that grows on you the more you listen to it. And she does it all, plays guitar, writes songs, sings... she is a musician. I fell in love with the song Dusk the first time I heard it play, and she's almost convinced me that dusk is a better time of day than first thing in the morning when the world is just waking up...
Jess is a story teller, who lets you into her heart and mind and takes you on a journey to the very core of what is Jess McAvoy. Of loves lost and won, snippets of her life are woven magically throughout this album.
And there just doesn't seem to be a bad track on this offering... Although to me, Dusk is the stand out track, the others are all strong. The Hard Way keeps resurfacing in my mind, and I'll find myself singing it as I'm walking along....
Jess is an amazing independant artist from Melbourne. She has also added a lovely personal touch to the CD, by including a collection of photographs she has taken on her travels peppered amongst the song words... Her talents are not limited to the musical arena.
Thankyou Jess, for sharing your life with us through your music....Hopefully we'll be hearing a lot more from this talented young lady.....
