Ahhh. Big Day Out! I love it. The weather was perfect, the crowds were pumped and the bands ready to go. Firt up I caught pub rockers Airbourne, who always get me jumping around. Their set was full of energy which was a perfect way to start the day.
Then I wandered over to the blue stage and saw Faker. Next up was my all time favourite band, Magic Dirt. They played a solid set with a mix of the old and the new, and Adalita did her usual strut down in front of the crowd during Vulcanella. After that I kind of wandered around for a bit asking random people who they were here to see (99% of who I asked said Wolfmother) and taking some snaps of happy punters.
I headed over and watched a bit of Sarah Blasko's set then kept wandering. Watched Wolfmother, Lving End and Franz Ferdinand from the big screen at the side of stage, simply because when you are in a crowd you often dont get to see the bands. I wwandered over the green stage and caught the last few songs from End of Fashion, who played a cover of Theredsunbands " Devil Song". Nice.
Bit more wandering round led me back to the green stage where I saw The Go! Team. The lead singer is alot like Patience from The Grates, full of energy! I got The Go! Team confused with another band but I was still pretty blown away by this bunch of kids from England.
By the time Iggy and The Stooges came on I was happy to watch from further back (must be getting old) and well, they were excellent. Iggy invited a good 15 people up on stage (see pics) for a bit of a dance but it was nice to finally hear all those classic songs live. Headliners White Stripes took the stage next, but I couldnt get anywhere near them. The closest I got was when I crowd surfed out of the mosh. For some reason the sound was absolutely terrible. I watched from back near the grandstands and it was just this distorted mess. I heard from a mate later who saw them from the front that Jack White actually stormed off stage leaving Meg drumming for a minute or so before she left the stage too, had a word with him and they both reappeared. I was expecting way more from The White Stripes as I really like their sound. Bit disappointing. During The Stripes set we decided to call it a day and left.
