The Dwarf Recommends: Ausmuteants

After months of sweat-inducing, molar-grinding anticipation, Ausmuteants will finally launch their second LP Amusements - released late last year through Aarght! Records - this Friday night at the Tote in Collingwood.

Amusements continues where the band’s 100 Ausmuteants Fans Can’t Be Wrong – 100,000,000 Bon Jovi Fans Can EP left off, marking a notable transition for the cheeky synth-punk four-piece. Compared to their lo-fi debut Split Personalities and last year’s Ah… What An Ugly Face Every Face Is EP, the new sound is much tighter but still delivered with the same bratty irreverence. It’s really great and you should already have a copy of it by now.

The boys from Geelong will be in great company on the night with Constant Mongrel and Beat Disease supporting. Constant Mongrel are in fine form at the moment, having recently supported Parquet Courts at the Corner Hotel alongside local stalwarts Total Control. Their most recent album Heavy Breathing - a 20-minute ripper of a record – was one of the highlights of my 2013, and these guys are a definite must-see. Beat Disease have been around for years now and are likewise well worth checking out.

So if you’ve been left lonely come Valentine's Day evening – or if, like me, your idea of romance necessitates the musk of beer-soaked carpets and other people’s body odours – come on down to the Tote for some sweet aural love-making.

The cover charge is only $10, and bands are on starting from 9PM - it would be rude not to.
