Graduating from under the shadows of other heavy hitters such as Incubus (who they supported in their recent tour of New Zealand), Villainy’s new album has them standing front row centre, as one of the hottest rockers in town.
Their third album Dead Sight is not a disappointment. The moment I turned on the first track “Give Up The ghost”, I had my toes tapping and the virtual drums smashing. The New Zealand natives have something to say and you have no choice but to be mesmerised by their beats, heavy riffs and great harmonies. Whilst Neill Fraser manages to rip shreds off his vocal chords, and Thom Watts owns the lead guitar, this band still maintains the smoothness that is now synonymous to Villainy’s sound.
This album has an epic anthem quality to it. It just keeps on hitting you and just when you think it can’t get any better, along comes another beat that starts it all over again. “Tantalus” is my favourite track on the album, but trust me there are plenty of others to put it through its paces. All in all, it’s a cracker of an album.
Check out Villainy live when they kick off their Australian tour supporting Sydonia and Jericho from 13 November 2015. These guys hopefully will be a headlining act in the near future. No wonder they were picked to support AC/DC in their Rock or Bust tour in New Zealand. Watch this space!
Villainy’s new album Dead Sight is available now on itunes and available at JB Hi-Fi.
