Suze DeMarchi - Our House

I was a just a tad bit excited when I had the opportunity to review the new song from Suze DeMarchi - ‘Our House’ featuring Russell Morris. When I pressed play…the thumping bass came on and it instantly transported me back to my bedroom, as a teenager playing Baby Animal’s cassettes over and over. Dreaming to be as cool as the quintessential rock chick Suze!

But unfortunately, that’s where the coolness ended. I didn’t like this song the first time I heard it. I was rather disappointed that Russell Morris was singing a duet with Suze. I know that it's sacrilegious to say out loud about Australian music royalty, but it just didn’t seem to fit. The song seemed a little “try hard rock ballad”. There was just something I didn’t like about the chord progressions in the bridge to the chorus. But being a fan of Suze’s, I gave it a few more goes…and I am glad I did.

It started to grow on me. The chord progression to the chorus still is a bit ‘off’ in my opinion, but the harmonies seem to work and Suze and Russell’s smooth vocal huskiness takes centre stage as they should.

All in all, “Our House” showcases the coolness that is Suze DeMarchi, but I think it is a long way off making it an Aria award song.
